Rain Shadow Areas development Department
Bio-diesel Programme in Andhra Pradesh
An area of 37,500 acres identified covering 12166 farmers for Jatropha plantation, of which 33,167 acres has been planted in 10 districts
7000 acres of land planted has been provided drip irrigation for better water management under 90% subsidy.
These plantations were supported by the government under different ongoing programmes.
To provide systematic Research and Development support, Government have sanctioned a comprehensive R&D plan for Jatropha. Acharya N.G.Ranga Agri University (ANGRAU), ICRISAT, CRIDA, NBPGRI, Directorate of Oil seed and IICT have been involved in the R&D plan and an amount of Rs. 98.50 Lakhs has been released to these scientific institutions.
A total area of 13584.6 Ha has been planted. Of this 3012.3 Ha is under irrigated conditions and 10571.77 Ha is under rain fed, 9179 total farmers.
Biofuel plantations 2006-07
It is planned to cover an area of 17,50,000 acres under Jatropha and Pongamia during 2006.
1 Lakh acres of biodiesel plantation shall be taken up in selected 13 districts during 2006-07.
50,000 acres of biodiesel plantation shall be taken up in 9 districts of Nellore, Prakasham, Kurnool, E.godavari, Guntur, Krishna, Srikakulam, Vishakapatnam, W. Godavari.
Under this plantation programme, Government funding shall be available to any farmer up to an extent to 5 acres only.
The farmers will be supported by bank loan to cover 40% of the plantation cost for a period of 3 years.
Minimum support price of Rs. 6 per kg has been decided for Jatropha and Pongamia seed.
