DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
Department of Biotechnology is working for the superior quality of Jatropha seeds with higher oil content
They have collected elite material from four regions.
5 Lakh plants produced.
200 ha area covered under plantation
Quality germplasm is being maintained
Objectives:
1. Selection of superior material based on established criteria- oil content 30-40%, yield 3-5 tonnes/ ha.
2. Nursery establishment at 10-12 centres.
3.Standardizing agro technology packages.
4.Production of superior quality material through micro and macropropagation
5.Demonstration in identified areas at 10-12 agro climatic locations.
