NATIONAL BIOFUEL
CENTRE
|
|
Introduction
|
| Petroleum resources are finite and therefore
search for alternative is continuing all over the world. Development
of bio-diesel as an alternative and renewable source of energy
for transportation has become critical in the national effort
towards maximum self-reliance - the corner stone of our energy
security strategy. Bio-diesel being environment friendly, will
help us to conform to the stricter emission norms. |
| Petroleum Conservation Research
Association (PCRA), as a registered society under Ministry of
Petroleum and Natural Gas, was created in 1978 to formulate
strategies and to promote measures for accelerating conservation
of petroleum products. One of its main objectives is to support
and facilitate efforts for adoption and information dissemination
for substitution of petroleum products with alternate and renewable
fuels. |
| Bio-diesel is also a renewable
fuel. Govt. of India has already done a beginning in this direction
by constituting a Committee on Development of Bio-diesel under
the planning commission. The committee has recommended that
our country must move progressively towards the use of Bio-diesel
as a substitute for Petroleum diesel. Efforts of PCRA have been
recognized in the report of the committee in the area for carrying
out studies, collecting data and spreading mass awareness throughout
the country. Unfortunately, the information about TBO and bio-diesel
is not available at a central place in India from where one
can have information about. PCRA is opening a National Information
Center on bio-diesel where every information from root-to-canopy
will be available. |
| Presently all such information
is scattered and confined to isolated pocket of knowledge and
that too, only on some small sections of the whole aspect of
bio-diesel. It is not readily and easily accessible to common
man.PCRA has already been a very active in promotion, information
dissemination and education campaign on bio-fuels through electronic,
print, and personal contact programmes. For promotion of bio-fuels,
PCRA has developed several films, covered various aspects in
PCRA's many TV & radio programmes, has published several
articles in Hindi magazines and Technical Journals, sponsored
certain research projects and made several presentations in
various seminars. It would be extremely useful if all information
related to bio-fuels is available to common man at one designated
point in an easy way. with this objective PCRA opened Biofuel
Center of India |
| Activities of PCRA NBC:- |
